Review on πŸ“ Enhance Raspberry Programming with LGDehome PL2303TA Support by Saul Rivera

Revainrating 5 out of 5

. The UART console on a headless Raspberry Pi works fine. The presence of a 5V cable is very convenient.

Console UART on Raspberry Pi is headless and it works great. A 5V cable is very handy for powering small devices directly from a USB host. It works reliably with low-power devices like the Raspberry Pi Zero W and Model A. I haven't tried the Pi3, but that will surely draw too much current from the 5V on those tiny wires. I checked the TX voltage and it is indeed a logic of 3.3V. I tested it in a loop and it worked fine from 300 bps to 4 Mbps (as Minicom can reach). Tested on Linux, but this very popular chip should also work on Windows.

Pros
  • Highly compatible PL2303TA drivers can emulate a traditional COM port on most operating systems, making it easy to migrate existing COM-based applications and make them USB-enabled without having to rewrite the COM port software application
Cons
  • Available in white only
