Description of πŸ“ Enhance Raspberry Programming with LGDehome PL2303TA Support

PL2303TA is perfectly compatible with XP/VISTA/7/8/8.1/10/ Mac OS X/Linux. PL2303TA provides a convenient solution for connecting an RS232-like full-duplex asynchronous serial device to any Universal Serial Bus (USB) capable host. PL2303TA highly compatible drivers could simulate the traditional COM port on most operating systems allowing the existing applications based on COM port to easily migrate and be made USB ready without having to rewrite the COM port software application. The flexible baud rate generator of PL2303TA could be programmed to generate any rate between 75 bps and 6M bps. PL2303TA is exclusively designed for mobile and embedded solutions in mind, providing a small footprint that could easily fit in to any connectors and hand-held devices. With very small power consumption in either operating or suspend mode, PL2303TA is perfect for bus powered operation with plenty of power left for the attached devices.

They work fine for me.

I bought them because of their form factor and price. While I have to admit that I got the 3 for such a low price, I did think about possible quality issues. But so far all three have done well. I've used them on Linux, macOS, and Windows. The attached image shows two GPS clocks connected to a breadboard. The screen shows two terminal emulators connected to adapters. A USB hub, two different LCDs, a GPS receiver, an RTC and (not shown) a Raspberry Pi with terminal emulators are also purchases…

Pros
  • The PL2303TA is a convenient solution for connecting a full-duplex asynchronous RS232 serial device to any Universal Serial Bus (USB) host.
Cons
  • disappears

Console UART on Raspberry Pi is headless and it works great. A 5V cable is very handy for powering small devices directly from a USB host. It works reliably with low-power devices like the Raspberry Pi Zero W and Model A. I haven't tried the Pi3, but that will surely draw too much current from the 5V on those tiny wires. I checked the TX voltage and it is indeed a logic of 3.3V. I tested it in a loop and it worked fine from 300 bps to 4 Mbps (as Minicom can reach). Tested on Linux, but this…

Pros
  • Highly compatible PL2303TA drivers can emulate a traditional COM port on most operating systems, making it easy to migrate existing COM-based applications and make them USB-enabled without having to rewrite the COM port software application
Cons
  • Available in white only

Nice well built adapter that works as well as it looks.

Worked fine on my old Toshiba XP Pro laptop which already had the Prolific driver installed from a previous project. My new W7 Pro didn't have the Prolific driver so I chose the option for W7 to find the driver and it found one and installed it and the adapter worked fine again. Both computers and all three adapters were tested with Hyperterm in loopback mode and also in conversation with an Atmel ATtiny45. What I particularly like (besides the low price) is that all the electronics are housed…

Pros
  • PL2303TA is fully compatible with XP/VISTA/7/8/8.1/10/Mac OS X/Linux.
Cons
  • Some errors
