Review on Samsung C27F398 Curved Monitor - LC27F398FWNXZA, 1920X1080P, 60Hz, Curved Screen by Kevin Atkins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Oh boy where do I start.

It's been a while since I reviewed the Revain, but this monitor is definitely worth my time. I've been staring at computer monitors since the mid '80s and I've never seen anything quite like this Samsung, and I might as well add: Samsung - oh how far you've fallen. In its day the Samsung was pretty reliable and of pretty good quality, I've had a few over the years. This is my first "curved" monitor so I was intrigued and excited, especially after spending hours reading monitor reviews in general, it always seemed like the "latest" negative review wiped out tons of previous positives so it took a while . decide. Firstly, I agree with one of the reviews that says the corners are the wrong color, yes I have them in three of the four corners as well, which isn't a huge factor when things start to play out. Second, yes it's ALL shiny plastic, I wasn't sure if it counts as Sleekly Cheap or Cheaply Sleek. Third, and this is the most annoying "fault" I've ever encountered in a monitor, and I'll try to explain it in detail. I currently have three monitors and the computer this Samsung is connected to is mainly used to stream live TV in the background while I work. The main channel I watch is CourtTV, I'll mention this in case anyone else has the same issue. CourtTV has a lot of commercial breaks, almost every time a commercial starts the audio cuts out and half the time the video screen freezes. You might think that's good, but whenever CourtTV comes back on after a commercial break, I have to refresh the screen to get the sound back! Every time! Since I usually work across the room, I have to go back to my computer for that! From time to time, after frequent updates, it will revive on its own, but this rarely happens! This is not a PC issue as I only changed monitors not PCs. I've never experienced anything like this and like I said, it's incredibly annoying! And finally the fourth, and that's the highlight. It doesn't switch off! Yes, I have no idea why turning off the monitor now requires a two step process! For real? So as soon as you press the button on the back, a small popup appears on the screen along with the brightness etc., problem? They do not do anything! I can't "click" it, move my mouse or use my keyboard, so it either stays on 24/7 or has to be turned off manually each time. So what is good about this monitor? Well it looks good. would i buy it nope I'm disappointed? Yes. Would I recommend this to someone else? Only if you plan to watch programs/movies continuously and NOT stream with ads. video games? I may have tried a quick game from my Steam and it "looks" fine, although not like a regular monitor. Final Thoughts: I was excited and then frustrated with incredibly boring issues that I never expected from a basic monitor. I certainly hope other people have better luck with this when making the purchasing decision, although I suggest spending maybe another $50 or more. and strive for the best quality in the price range, you REALLY get what you pay for and Samsung isn't what it used to be.
