I have had this swan neck kettle for about two weeks. So I can't say anything about longevity. It heats up a little slower than my previous kettle, but still very quickly. I use it to make coffee and it's ready when I grind the beans. To turn it off, I press the ON button for about 1 second. If you press and hold the HOLD button for 3 seconds, the timer will start counting down the seconds. It has a temperature hold button that works if you're trying to keep the temperature at or below 205F. Above will not last. My biggest complaint would be that it's a bit difficult to get back to base. You have to get it right. My old one must have had something like a funnel edge to help. That means it's not a problem, just not as easy as my old one. It looks exactly like the picture so I'm happy with how it looks. PROS: - I checked the accuracy of the temperature and it is very accurate. - Pressing the HOLD button will keep the preferred temperature. - Auto shut off after two hours if I forget to turn it off - Timer function CONS: - Difficult to return to base - Cannot do anything when kettle is not at base. If you want to turn it off or turn off the timer, you must first put the kettle back on the base.
