Based on stock photos and inconclusive reviews I was expecting the worst. To my surprise, it's not cheap at all. The tip tapers the last 1/2 inch or so into a sharp skewer that's great for grilled meats. The quality is well above what you would expect from a kitchen tool and is comparable to an industrial tool. The only criticism is that the backlight only comes on for 10 seconds. I've used it for instant hot water and found that it can stabilize from 72° to 177° in about 10 seconds. It took my counterpart almost 30 seconds to do the same without precision.
