Read about using natural wood for your decking

The good news is I now have a solid deck with a few surface screws. The bad news is that when you have a real wood floor without a factory groove it is incredibly labor intensive. Cutting each board to length, cutting all the grooves with a carpenter's machine, and then assembling them took a lot of time. That's because I wanted the narrowest joint (3/32"") that any system will allow. It also takes some time to get used to how tight the screws are. Too much and the next board won't fit in the slot. Black plates are not noticeable on a narrow joint but can be on wider joints. The actual installation using the template and screws was fairly easy, albeit slow.

Pros
  • Reinforced metal for more holding capacity and increased pull resistance
Cons
  • Out of style
