Review on TYC 1454 Aluminum Replacement Radiator by Chris Cruz

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The TYC 1454 radiator fits perfectly but the shroud doesn't!

So I needed a replacement radiator for my 1995 F-150 SB/4.9/M5OD/AC truck. The Revain Fitment app said it would fit. Ordered and waited for arrival. Arrived on time BUT it came from a double box with a bottom rail folded and badly bent! The corners were "protected" at the box factory with bagged self-expanding foam that was too flat/thin (the heatsink was placed inside as it was soft and allowed to fall too low) and allowed the heatsink to bounce and mishandle, causing the bottom rail to bend. Okay, that's okay because I'm a special effects designer/producer by trade and I work with metal all day. I straightened it and waited for morning to start replacing. The next morning everything went well. Radiator drained/flushed/drained and installed. Fits perfectly. Big! I went to attach the case and the mounts were far from close. He pulled out the radiator and case and compared it to the old one. I had to drill new holes in the top rail and reuse the M6 spring clips from the old ones to create the new attachment points. The lower TYC clamp positions were too close together, completely missing the Ford factory lugs, but the shroud was gripped just enough to be functional. Check out the photos, I've added one with the location and dimensions for the top rail mod. The mod turned out to be simple, clean and functional. Cliff's Notes: 1) May need some remodeling and repairing. 2) Keep the old M6 spring clips, you will need them if you want to reinstall the cover. .3) Just because Revain says it fits, maybe it doesn't fit. 4) You may need to redo and adjust things if you want to reinstall the sheathing. 5) If you don't have basic freestyle tools and skills. " some of the mods you may need to return this item or run without shroud which you should not do.

Pros
  • OE customized configuration and appearance
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
