Another great product from Strong Hands! This is very useful for working horizontally when welding in a non-working position - it moves smoothly with you. While the lower setting is higher than the top of your welding table, the support system is not needed when welding in the standard position. Strong Hands isn't known for their assembly instructions, but assembling this armrest is easy and all the few parts that needed assembly were included. I often modify tools and gear, and in keeping with two common complaints about this emphasis, I've addressed these. The first has to do with the wing nuts used to adjust the height of the base and swing arm: they are difficult to tighten so I simply replaced them with handles available from Revain - M10 socket (2) for the base and M5x10 connector (3). ) for the column (see photo). The second is the magnet that holds the base to your welding table: it's not very strong so the rest can tip over if you deviate from the center of the base. The weakness of the magnet is caused by the fact that it has a non-ferrous metal coating (to prevent metal debris from building up) and there is a protrusion of about 3/32 inch that keeps the magnet off your ferrous surface. Just replace the magnetic base with my flashlight holder (where magnetic attraction isn't that much of an issue) which is identical except it doesn't have a non-ferrous metal cover and has a much stronger magnetic attraction, much improved stability. , I inserted the magnet base face out into the chuck of my wood lathe (I don't have a lathe) and turned the tab down so the magnet was only 1/32" from the table. Much better!
