Review on StarTech.com 3 Port USB C Hub with SD πŸ’» Card Reader - Boost Laptop Connectivity - Thunderbolt 3 Compatible by David Mcdonald

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A simple passive hub that works well at full Gen2/10Mbps speeds on high-performance NVMe SSDs.

10Gbps. I've been using this hub for a month with USB3-NVMe Gen2 10Gb/s cases, Gen1 flash drives and other basic mouse/keyboard devices with no issues. powered device. 4 flash drives are fine. 4 NVMe SSDs maybe not. Pay attention to the supplied upstream power. All output ports support Gen2/10Gb/s, although the icon in the port is blue, but the label shows "10G" (good). If you need Gen2/10Gbps throughput, the uplink must be a true Gen2/10Gbps port (assume nothing else, search for "10"). I also used an externally powered ST hub as an upstream source and everything worked fine (but cable length should be shorter with this daisy chain). 3ft (1m) from PC to a powered hub and 3ft from that hub worked - 6ft (2m) on both probably won't work (most 6ft Gen2 only work and unfortunately not reliably on Gen2/10Gb/ s speeds) . Many Gen2 cables > 3 feet have problems. Some Gen2 cables < 3ft have issues. Use reliable cables and look for uplink capabilities. If the upstream is Gen1/5 Gbps, the maximum downstream throughput is 5 Gbps. Miracles don't happen. Most user problems arise because the user does not understand the capabilities of the upstream port and/or the cables involved. Don't assume all PC USB-C upstream ports or hub upstream ports are Gen2/10Gbps (make sure). Good Gen2 hardware Γ· Quality Gen2 cables = Gen/10Gb/s success

Pros
  • . Ideal for a small home.
Cons
  • . Something is wrong.
