Good little unit but not for major moisture issues

I live in the woods, in an old house with screen doors that don't close tightly and no air conditioning. This summer was particularly rainy. I also recently ripped the carpet from wall to wall in my bedroom after noticing some mustiness and finding a small patch of slightly damp flooring and a few patches of mold in one corner due to old water damage. At the time, I figured my bedroom was the only real problem area, so I started with this device first. A few quick pros and cons: Pros: It's attractive and actually adds a somewhat classy accent to the room. An on/off button makes it very easy to use. He's pretty calm. I run an air purifier in my bedroom at night and it's a little quieter than the air purifier. I like that it pulls air in from the front of the unit and exhausts dry air out the side. This allows me to place it fairly close to the wall if needed and still allow air to circulate. It has a cutout for a carry handle with a grip tab that makes it easy to lift, rotate and/or carry. It has a plastic/permanent filter that catches coarse dust and dirt and is very easy to clean. Simply slide it out of the front bottom of the device, rinse, dry and reinsert. Cons: The water compartment is a very dark smoky color and it's almost impossible to see the water level. I find myself squinting at it, shining the flashlight from different angles, tilting the device to make the water move so I can see it; it's annoying. There's no built-in hygrometer, which would be useful. Also no extra settings or timers etc if you need those options. The biggest downside is that it just isn't powerful enough for serious dehumidification. I will detail below. I started using this at 70% humidity in a very warm room. This combination of heat and high humidity is actually the most effective dehumidifier, so I should have seen impressive results, but I didn't. I put it in my bedroom and closed the bedroom door and window. I even put a rolled up towel under my bedroom door to keep the space nice. My bedroom is no larger than 10 x 12 (actually about 6 inches smaller than either direction), so we're talking under 120 square feet. This unit is labeled 269 square feet so it should be quite large. It drew water, but very little and very slowly. About every 24 hours I had 1/2 to 1 inch of water in the compartment. I used it 24/7 in a closed room for 2 weeks and the humidity has hardly changed and was around 68%. After the second week of use I started moving the hygrometer around the house and found I needed something a lot more. it could do all the rooms because the whole house was too damp. So I bought a much larger unit (a floor sized model on wheels) with a 50 pint capacity to use around the house, not just the bedroom. My house is less than 800 square meters and has 6 rooms and a small hallway. I opened up all the rooms and placed the new block centrally and in the first 24 hours of use the larger block performed better than this block did in a full 2 weeks. It reduced the humidity in ALL rooms from 70% to 35% in about 3 days and collected several gallons of water, it was a huge difference in performance. It's still a nice little block, I just think it's made for VERY small spaces. as well as more of a dehumidifier's 'service/comfort level' as opposed to the ability to restore or repair a very wet space. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a serious moisture problem like me, it won't fix the problem. But it could work on a bedside table for easier sleeping or in the bathroom for showering. For serious dehumidification, its performance is simply not enough. I chose to keep it rather than return it because it's good quality and now that I have a normal humidity level it will be a good addition to turn it on from time to time when I don't use a lot of electricity want work. big unit.
