The reviews for this shoe are a bit confusing as it seems the velcro version and the lace up version are mixed on the same page. The size chart is also a bit confusing. I wasn't 100% sure if I would get the right size for my child because a size 3 is called 'baby' and my grandson is 8 years old and wears a size 3 shoe that we don't call 'baby'. Size 3. But apparently the shoe industry doesn't start talking about "big kids' shoes" until a size 3 1/2 and up. To give you a better idea of the sole size of the shoe, the shoe measures about 9 1/2 inches. The shoe is about 8 1/2" long. Pretty average for a first grader or second grader. The shoes are very well made. Very comfortable when the laces are adjusted correctly. My grandson jumped in them like an akangaro without any discomfort. The shoes actually look better than the picture. And they have laces like in the picture.
