Review on 🚦 Hopkins 46155 Universal Taillight Converter Kit by Ken Perry

The instructions recommend using the supplied piercing tester.

The instructions recommend using the tester provided to pierce the plastic sheathing of the wires. I found it much easier to turn off the light and touch the tester directly to the end of the connector clip. It takes a lot of effort to poke a hole in the wire and I was afraid of hurting my hand and damaging the wire. After everything was assembled using the included blue break wire connectors, I plugged in the trailer and nothing worked. It took me a bit of fiddling with my multimeter (you can also use the included tester), but I eventually found that the included branch connectors don't pierce the plastic covering of the wires, causing the connection to fail. I removed the blue connectors and they were covered. with terminal grease that has gotten everywhere and takes a lot of soap to wash off your hands. I ended up stripping the wires and using solder which made a good connection. My advice is to discard the tap connectors, solder the wires, and then tape them with tape. If you don't have a soldering iron, you can use electrical tape to make a working connection, even if you just twist the bare wires together. In general the kit works well. The wires were the right length for my 2004 Honda Civic and the connectors are well labeled where everything goes.
