For the most part I like these boots enough to keep and wear them. Here's what I like: They're light, much lighter than my leather work boots. They breathe so my feet are cooler in hot weather. I have ankle problems and these boots offer enough support to wear all day. You look good. Here's what I don't like: They're awfully hard to put on. Even with the side zip, they don't open wide enough and I have to make a real effort to put them on. It's a struggle every time. Also, the upper lace eyelets are holes, not hooks. So if I open the boots enough to put them on and the laces fall out, I have to fish them out through the holes to tie them back up. The hooks on my leather boots are much easier. Finally, the sole is too thin to protect my feet when digging with a shovel. Thicker soles would likely add weight to the boots, but they would be easier to work with. Merrell makes great shoes. I hope the next time they design a shoe they will address these issues.
