Pretty reliable! You just have to play around with the positioning angle a bit, yes, a bit down to around knee height seems to work best. I have them for security reasons (the location is a bit remote) and although they occasionally pick up deer and the occasional cat (I can see the entire driveway from the house) it doesn't bother me. 100% hit for cars. I've never had a problem with them shutting off due to wind, rain, etc. You are doing a good job for me. I have a tone at the top of the driveway and then another halfway up the house which I also really like so I know exactly where the 'visitor' is.
