They were easy to install on my Nordictrack S22i spin bike. I wanted the pedals to be both cage and SPD compatible so my kids could use a spin bike without having to invest in shoes for them until they show me they are serious about using a bike . I've used the pedals twice now and what a difference it makes compared to a cage! They come with spikes. I've already bought Shimano cleats, having originally bought similar pedals cheaper from Echelon that didn't fit my bike (the bolt is too long). I'll save the extra boots for later. I like that they are SPD because SPD spikes are easier to find.
