I couldn't unscrew the locking ring even with the 2ft extension and rod. The extension was simply badly bent. The design and function of this tool looked great so I went out and bought it. I swapped out my fuel pump with a 7" square hole that I cut in the bed so I didn't have to remove the tank or bed since I was working alone. When the tool didn't snap the lock ring, I dropped the shifter and drove a pick onto the lock tooth from the side up through the area where the driveshaft was and hit it twice with a hammer and it immediately popped out. The locking ring seems to respond better to a sharp impact than a torsional force.
