The part in the box has no Mercruiser part number

The solenoid came in a Mercruiser box with the correct part number on the tag, the part inside had a completely different part number than I could don't look up If I need to replace it again I can't cross the part number. Was it a genuine Mercruiser part or a replacement? The solenoid fit and worked, but I paid significantly more than other brands.
