Review on Sargent Art Plastilina Non-hardening Modeling Clay: 5 lb White Clay for Creative Projects by Carrie Spencer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Does not dry out, holds shape well, cleans work surface after use

We bought this to learn letters and numbers as my son needed tactile and kinesthetic activity. to reinforce his learning. We've had this for over a year and it hasn't dried out or deteriorated in any way, despite being accidentally stored in cheap ziplock bags (which don't always seal properly to begin with. I'll fix that if I find it!) in a corner cupboard in our kitchen. My kids love playing with this to sculpt and make little models and figures. It is initially stiff, but quickly becomes more flexible as it is processed. Although we bought a solid, plain white, the kids love it because it's stronger than plasticine, allowing the figures to stand up better and retain their features and fine details well. The only downside to this clay is that after my kids have used it at our table it leaves a residue that needs a bit of brushing to remove it from the surface. It is not as easy to clean as plasticine, but also does not dry out, which is a big plus. It worked great for forming letters and numbers. This works well for right-brained (creative) learners to build vocabulary as they can form a word out of clay and then use more clay to create a scene or object to help them remember the definition. This act of creation makes the experience truly memorable for them and helps reinforce what they have learned.

Pros
  • Non-hardening mineral based clay
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
