I live in an apartment in Florida and no matter how much air conditioning is on, our apartment is always very humid. I will buy them and put them in everyone's closets to protect our clothes and you can tell they will make a world of difference in just a few weeks when they are full! I think for a large area like a living room or bedroom they probably won't have much of an effect, but in a closed closet where you don't get that much moisture all the time I think they will definitely help. We have never had a problem with mold or mildew which we are closing since moving here and using them.
