I bought this ruler because I needed a small metal ruler that looked professional and fit in my notebook. I'm a forensic investigator. I take lots of notes. More grades than in graduate school. I like to keep my notes clean and pristine so it's easy to write a report later. I use a 6 inch ruler that I take with me in the car to keep my notes in pristine condition. I often have to submit my notes to my superiors as evidence. The last thing I want is to hand over something that makes me look lazy. , disorganized or unintelligent. The 6 inch ruler does what you expect, is very durable and looks professional. The 12 inch ruler stays on my desk. I think I'd like a little hole in the end but it actually serves me well for hanging on the wall, I always know where it is and it doesn't get lost in some drawer somewhere.
