Original cargo port bearings had a short lifespan, ordered these as a replacement. The tailstock arrived on time. I opened the package and twisted it; I could feel the roughness in the bearings as they turned in my hand. Contacted Revain, received return authorization, received replacement very quickly. Did about a dozen turns with silky smooth power. I'm a happy customer.
If value is your priority, this lively center is worth it. I mean it's not what you get from disposable tools but for me it works great as a live center and d sssd for what I wanted it for. If I'm turning a bowl on a lathe and you want to clean the bottom, that's great for that. I can remove all or most of the bottom of the bowl as you can cut away almost all of the wood leaving very little for the grinder to clean up.
This hub is pretty wobbly and unusable due to bad bearings. I have only used the center a handful of times. When I applied lateral pressure to the tool, there was a howl and hesitation, causing spiral grooves to form in the wood. I reused the mug type platter that came with the lathe and the problem went away. In them I noticed the tumbling in this center. One or more loose bearings means this center is pretty much scrap. I guess it was the wrong item to try to save a few bucks. My guess is…
