Bottom adds at least 3/4 inch in height. The laces have no eyelets. If the laces are tightened, they can puncture the top of the fabric. In my part of the world, unfortunately, there are cacti and other sharp objects that can pierce the fabric and sides of your feet. Thin fabric does not protect. I bought them because I thought they looked good and the price was right. I guess I'll have to pay more for something that survives in the real world.
