I received this stand to use with a 2011 Macbook Air. It is used to dock to an external keyboard, mouse and monitor. After receiving the product, I can understand why some people doubt the size of the lips holding the laptop. That's perfect for the Thin Air, but it can be a bit unreliable on bulkier PC laptops. I mounted this thing in its most tilted position and the bottom of the laptop LCD and my external Dell on a 5 inch stand matched perfectly. At 100% selection, it aligns top to bottom, but is still extremely useful. The lack of side rails is actually a good thing as it makes access to ports easier. And the device has good friction so I never have to worry about my laptop slipping sideways.
