This is a prime example of how digital technology is no better than old school. I have digital calipers. Batteries are dead when I want to use them. With them, I no longer have to worry about dead batteries. This works 100% of the time at any temperature after not using it for weeks, months or years. I can throw them on the floor. I can probably run them over with my car and they will still work. I bet that will be passed down from generation to generation to my kids and their kids. It just works. They are simple, cheap and durable. Do I need an accuracy better than 0.1mm or 1/128 inch? no This provides all the precision that anyone but a professional machinist could need.
