Sturdy but modifiable
I removed one of the vertical bars to allow the cat to fit through. I know this will void the warranty, but it can't be raised to get a kitty underneath. The rod was difficult to remove, so it must have been well secured with a weld at the top and bottom. I cut it through with a multi tool and painted it with the matching Rustoleum gloss paint. Looks good and still feels strong. It is used to prevent the wheelchair from going down the lower level stairs.
