Just received yesterday 27th July 2020 so I don't know how long it can last. I tested it with the receiver on the bed, so the bedding would naturally absorb the sound somewhat, making it harder to hear, as opposed to a hard surface. I was surprised that it was connected through a closed door 28 feet away and I could hear it, albeit faintly. But at least it showed me where to find it. These receivers might not be loud enough for the hard of hearing, but at $15.99 I think it's a really good deal. I would consider buying as a gift.
