The concept and design of this item is great. The drawers stay put when you move them, the holes and slots are the perfect size and the knives are very nice and sharp. But bamboo itself is very cheap. The sides of the drawer liners are all split, and trying to sand them down only makes things worse. The glue used to assemble it is visible in a few places, and rinsing with hot water actually revealed the glue residue (which is good so I could wash it off). The slate left rock chips in the corners of its slot every time I moved it. I'm sure the glue residue is food safe (especially after washing) and won't affect use, nor will the slate peel off. terrible, that's why I gave 4 stars instead of 3. It's still usable. But wood shavings are a big problem, and I need to figure out how to sand or oil the stains enough that the bamboo shavings don't get into my cheese.
