Received this to try and get 5.1 surround sound out of a home theater PC. The PC does not have an optical connection and the surround sound is not sent to the TV via HDMI. Regardless of the configuration, this does not work. Outputs stereo only. It doesn't seem to be the device, but Windows 10 not outputting the correct audio signal. However, I have a Fire TV connected to a 4K TV with an old receiver that doesn't support 4K. The TV only outputs stereo sound when the Fire TV is connected to the TV. This gave me the choice of whether I wanted 5.1 surround sound and 1080p video OR 4K video with stereo sound unless I wanted to buy a new receiver. Thanks to this device, I now get 4K videos with 5.1 surround sound. It wasn't what I intended to do with this device, but it's great that it works. Verdict: Great for 4K video with an old receiver from a streaming media player. Bad for home theaters. I take that as a win.
