Review on ๐Ÿฆ’ HABA Animal Upon Classic Stacking: A Whimsical and Educational Toy! by Shawn Bass

A fun, high quality and aesthetically pleasing balancing game

This Christmas we bought three Haba games for our four year old; these, Socks Zochen and Zitternix. This is my favorite and my 2 year old is dangerously crazy about characters, but my 4 year old says that while she loves this game, it's not as cool as Socks Zochen. The game consists of 7 different small wooden animals. There are four groups of animals, 28 in total, as well as a cube and a wooden alligator that forms the base of the stack. They are all quite small, which I found out before ordering, but it's actually hard to tell the size from the picture, so here are the measurements: The cube, which is larger than standard cube, is 0.75 inches square . alligator. : 4" x 1" Penguins: 1.25" x 0.75" Frilled Lizards: 1.25" x 1" Hedgehogs: 1.3" x 1.2" Snakes: 2.8 "x 0.4" Toucans: 1.4" x 1.25" Sheep: 1.75" x 1.4" "Monkeys: 1.75" x 1". The gameplay is as follows: Seven animals per player, up to four players Each player gets one animal of each type The first player rolls the dice with several options: a dot tells you to place an animal of your choice, a double dot means two animals your choice, a crocodile means you put something under the stack, a hand means you give the other player your chip to stack (so it means the other player gets a penalty if they knock down a tower) and '?' That means the other player decides which piece you need to piece together next, meaning they can of course beat you by picking a difficult piece, like a sheep, which has bigger, heavier, and less grippy edges than the whole stack is the loser. The one who uses all of their pieces without causing an animal disaster wins and if you knock over just a few pieces they just go back to your stack a little behind you in your mission..I had though the possibility of assembling the animals yourself (although I really want to do it), but due to Haba's silky smooth interface and the variety of shapes, this game turned out to be a little more difficult than you might imagine, the small size of the pieces exacerbating this Difficulty added. And of course, the cube adds unpredictability, which also makes the task more difficult. I think it's a great S game. The pieces are infinitely attractive, and very openly toy, as my two-year-old daughter demonstrated at the time during her reign, he called the monkeys "roaring monkeys" and continued to generally ignore most of their other gifts to include these four monkeys in his new Uncle Goose rolling carts around and "putting" them on his new Uncle Goose blocks. The monkeys watched her eat dinner and she would have taken them to bed with her, but these pieces are really very small and pose some choking hazard. They require close supervision for children under three and older and should be kept on a high shelf . While this game is easy to play without buying it (my kids are already stacking their animal figures), the structure of playing a real game on this premise makes it extremely fun. This is a refreshing change for preschoolers. So many people rely on *yawn* luck and chance Candyland, roll the dice and move on, boring, boring, boring. I love games that require skill and planning and maybe just a bit of luck to mix things up and this game offers all of that. I like that this game is made in Germany. rotation stage; with my only caveat, which you might want to refrain from if you have younger children (under 3) as the attraction is too big and the pieces are definitely too small.
