It's actually a brilliant idea to turn that narrow space into a phone holder or whatever else you need to fit in there. The landing is tight; although not quite perfect. This is where the tablet could use a bit more machining. It's not 100% sliding down into the available free space. The edges seem to protrude a little, and pressing them where they are flush will only crack or damage the tablet. Since this is a handlebar that people can hold onto in case the ride is "bumpy/off-road", it's possible that the new design recessed the tray under the handlebar so fingers could still grip the handlebars can grab. But there's still enough depth in the shelf to hold a phone and other essentials. It's just a thought to keep the safety feature that a steering wheel can sometimes offer. Maybe my tray wasn't exactly cut to specification at the factory. It works and I love the concept which is why I gave 4 stars. Would put 5 if sitting flush.
