First thought that there wasn't enough anvil or something. It seemed the hit was too long for the press. Looking at it, I noticed that the first half inch of the thread was so badly cut that it wouldn't engage the screw. I was in a dilemma so I decided to shorten the punch to get to the threads that were there. Not good. He immediately pulled out the remaining threads. I had already ground the head of the chain pin so it just needed to be pushed through. Still bad. I could probably do better with a hammer and hand drill, but with a chain on a bike.
