Appropriate "character" lens for portraits. Not suitable for group shots.* Focus lag and drift. This can be corrected to some degree by taking the lens apart and fitting a "spacer" to the pin that follows the groove in the focus ring. I used a segment cut from a curved bracket.* When the iris is closed, it starts as a jagged circle at F2. At around F3.5 it becomes a jagged six-pointed star. At F5.6, it becomes a four-pointed ninja star. Then the rectangle at F8.* The optics appear to be monolayer, and the lens suffers from fog flare, a washed-out, low-contrast appearance caused by light hitting the lens elements outside of the frame. The lens hood doesn't reduce flare, but the iris controls it. Highlights become a broad band around f5.6 that narrows as the aperture is further closed.* Field curvature. The focal plane is not flat, but curves outwards towards the edges. The lens has to be refocused for each new composition. This effect can make people stand out in portraits, but makes group shots impossible. Decreasing sharpness to increase depth of field is not very useful.* Moderately sharp. About 1800 centered wide open, improving to 2000 at F2 (the limit of my chart). Margins are wide open around 1400 and improve to 2000 at F8. However, due to field curvature, the center and edges are never sharp at the same time.* Vignetting. Adds "character" to portraits.
