Review on JOYSTAR 14/16 Inch Balance Bike For Toddlers And Kids Ages 3-8 Years Old Boys And Girls - Sport Kids Balance Bike With Handbrake - No Pedal Training Bicycle by Mike Pettigrew

Taking the fear out of balancing.

My son was a riding master with his 12 inch bike with training wheels, but he wouldn’t ride without the training wheels. He is high functioning autistic and has developed a fear of falling. As he got older he needed a bigger bike. He still hasn’t mastered balancing and has hated the new bigger bike because it is heavy. He cries if he has to get on it. Since he has been reluctant to learn to ride since, I switched to a balance bike after reading the reviews. He will actually get on this one and likes that it is a lot lighter than the bike with petals. We are still working on balance, but he likes that there aren’t pedals in his way if he needs to put his feet down to stop. On regular bikes he would have to stick his legs out past the pedals to attempt to stop and toddle over in the process since he has slammed on brackets before and been tossed over the handle bars (I’m stil not sure how that happened, but he was going down hill so I blame physics.) I would definitely recommend this bike to anyone with a child on any part of the spectrum. I only wish someone had told me earlier to start with this instead of the way children are traditionally taught to ride a bike. All kids should start with a balance bike and this one is the lightest in the market for this size.

The handlebars and handbrakes are poorly designed. My 6-year old’s fingers can’t reach the handbrake very well and too much squeezing force is needed to do the job
