excellent weeding, could be improved

I bought it because of sea buckthorn plantain. I used a weed puller that looked like a wide screwdriver with a knurled end. I had to pinch and pull the weeds with such force that my fingers quickly ached. Hori Hori is easier to introduce. It cuts more roots so I don't have to pull hard. I can work faster and continue like this indefinitely. This weed was soon hard to find in my garden. Dallisgrass is even worse. It's difficult to find an herbicide that will kill it selectively. Four days after mowing, the lawn can look overgrown. If it hasn't rained in a week, it can still be wet enough to clog the lawnmower and make a mess. Like a dewdrop, it turns brown at the end of summer. Unlike rosichka, this is a perennial plant. The root mass widens from year to year. My Hori Hori digs it up better than anything I've tried. If I can catch the plant before its roots grow, the hori-hori will catch it in no time. When there is a root stain, I insert the tool about 2 cm deep and hear a wonderful click from the roots. I can break more roots by rotating the tool. Then I make another cut next to the first one. With my other hand, I tug at the leaves so I know where the roots are. In the last month I have used a herbicide against the weeds several times. Killing Dallisgrass will take him more than a month, but he's slowed growth. This keeps the lawn looking better for longer and gives me time to use my hori hori to look for the worst examples. I win! On the day of arrival there were many problems with the instrument. The sheath required one hand to hold the hard leather strap open while I used the other hand to draw the tool. The pen was uncomfortable to hold because it was too big and the edges were too square. Section 30 x 18 mm. In comparison, the handle of a large kitchen knife of the latest generation measures only 18 x 18 mm and the corners are significantly rounder. The shaft of the handle was flat, with 4 edges and 4 corners. I've never seen a knife handle like this before. When I stuck the blade into the ground, the corners of my palm hurt! Using side cutters, I sanded the corners of the butt at 45 degrees until I got sort of an octagonal shape. Then I rounded it into a kind of half circle. It's much more comfortable on my palm. I then went over the wood edges with a set of rasps and files and rounded the edges. This made the handle less uncomfortable to grip. I left the scabbard on the table with the weight to keep the ends of the strap horizontal. The next day he stayed out of my way. Sometimes it got in the way so I cut it off. I've carried this tool on a belt over one shoulder and under the other arm every day for the past two months and it has never fallen out. The smooth edge is rounded like a butter knife. This is enough to cut the roots of weeds in the ground. A sharp edge would be less durable and more dangerous. If I ever need to sharpen it I've tried the included sharpener. It must have been intended for small items like fish hooks. I tried using a large, coarse whetstone attached to a board so I could apply pressure. Sharpening would be a long task. The steel was too hard and too much had to be removed. It may never need sharpening. When that happens, I'll start the grinder. **** Update, 2 years later: there has been almost no Dalysgrass since the first year. I've only had worse build-ups with hori-hori and haven't seen any kills from repeated use of dewdrop spray. Maybe spraying kept him from building up the energy to get through the winter. They say that after eradicating buckhorn, you need to get seedlings in the second year. In the second year I saw little. The third year was much more. It was a wet spring. Perhaps these were plants too small to see in previous conditions. The hori-hori was more difficult to drive into the ground than it used to be, and tended to push the roots out of the way rather than clipping them. I sharpened the end with side cutters. The included sharpening rod would not have done its job.
