Review on πŸ“· Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 Lens for Nikon - Detailed Review, Specifications, and Pricing by Christine Bryant

I was very happy with the bargain price

Bought used from a Japanese dealer. Arrived at US address 3 weeks before estimated arrival date! The packaging was good and the item arrived in perfect condition. The lens is great for all types of shots, not just macro photography, which is fine at 90mm. Autofocus is very fast but can be noisy and sluggish in low light or low contrast. Manual focusing is a treat though, very easy to accomplish with this lens and adds to my enjoyment of shooting. A lens's maximum aperture varies with depth of field, and you only get f/2.8 when it's at infinity. However, you can achieve creamy bokeh if you know what you're doing. The lens is very plastic but I have no problem with it as it retains light and is worth the price. I use this lens on the D610 and doubt that the image quality can be improved with more expensive macro lenses from Nikon, Sigma or the two new versions from Tamron. For some reason, Nikon, Canon, and Sigma haven't updated their full-frame macro lenses. Lenses in the 90-105mm range for a couple of years while Tamron has gone through 3 generations. So if you want the latest technology, get the latest Tamron. However, this first generation still offers comparable quality at a much lower price.
