Let me start with what I like about these brushes. The length of the brushes is absolutely perfect. They're long enough to be easily held, but there's no extra length to lose balance. I also like the choice of sizes and the fact that the brushes are clearly labeled so you can always be sure you're using the right brush. The handles are made of plastic. They are light and there is nothing to worry about. However, I immediately remembered why, as a manicurist, I preferred brushes with wooden handles. The wooden-handled brush can be sharpened to the end, forming a double-edged tool that helps scrape excess gel from the edges of the nail as you work. The plastic handles aren't a problem, but I'll definitely be replacing the brushes with wooden ones as soon as possible so I can use the other end as well. The reason this product got 3 stars is because of the bristles. It's not uncommon for a bristle or two to fall out the first time you use a brush, and I expected that. I gently applied the gel to the brush, having tweezers handy to groom the stray bristles. Unfortunately, these brushes kept losing bristles during use. I've painted my nails twice and had to fish the bristles out of the gel I put on my nails at least 4 times. And that's in addition to a few original colors that I removed when I first saturated the brushes. This is an unacceptable loss and makes applying gel to my nails very tiring. I also had a stubble drop and it was much longer than the rest. It wouldn't pull out with tweezers and kept interfering with applying the gel. In the end I was forced to give up my job, find a pair of scissors and trim the loose bristles off the brush. I will definitely find a better gel brush.
