I rinsed the log under warm running water for a minute and gently scrubbed with my hands to remove any loose top black particles of paint. After that I had no more problems with celebrations. The box also recommends washing it first. My Betta loves it. Sometimes she sleeps in it (she turns over, sleeps in it and on her betta sheet). I have an artificial bamboo plant that I put right in front of it so a bamboo stalk holds the tree trunk to the back of the tank so it doesn't float with the current. The heater blocks it on the other side and the fighting tap blade on the other. So keep that in mind when purchasing. Have a placement idea that will hold it in place.
