Whilst I can't rate the durability of this lamp as I only received it yesterday it is by far the best quality I have seen. The rest took less than a year. Since I use my turtle tank outside under a covered porch, there are many things I particularly like about this lamp: 1) the top of the dome is solid / no vents; 2) The gooseneck is highly flexible but holds strong and is securely encased in vinyl that protects the metal from moisture/resists rusting; 3) the bottom of the dome is painted white, which also helps resist rust; 4) gap 2 compresses fully, piston 4 screws in/out easily; and 5) the clamp is strong and holds my 2 tanks securely. Most importantly, my turtles bask under this lamp! UPDATE: The lamp does not turn on automatically. Whether you use the built-in timer or an external timer, it just turns off automatically - I've just never seen a timer feature that only turns off; completely defeats the purpose of the timer in my opinion. The manufacturer points out that adding Auto-On w/w is too expensive.
