Review on Enhanced Kohler 84499 1B1X Conversion Kit for Improved Performance by Mood Neboet

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Installs well and works great but I'm glad I read the reviews on here as it made my job easier

My old Rialto mechanism was leaking so I have this kit Bought. I've read all the reviews here, so I wasn't surprised when the flexible water supply hose to the rim of the bowl didn't fit into the tank hole (the hose is too big). I was about to cut it off when I noticed that the other end of this tubing was slightly narrower. I inserted this piece of hose into the tank opening and it fitted perfectly. I don't know if I'm lucky, but try before you draw your knife. I also put this hose in the tank opening first before attaching it to the riser. This hose is stiff so it seemed like the easier route. After this hose was attached, I attached the riser to the tank. I also purchased a brand new 12" water hose separately. the bottom of the tank. I was about to look for a brass tipped cord but he assured me it would be fine if I took some advice. to make it fit. He suggested attaching the plastic fitting first and then making a loop to attach the brass fitting to the water shut-off valve. His experience is that homeowners who make the reverse connection strip plastic threads and leak 75% of the time. Only tighten the plastic part of the supply line hand-tight on the brass screw connection. It worked great. The kit also only included a plastic threaded connector to screw the riser to the tank and compress the seal. I reused a brass fitting from an old machine instead of this cheap looking plastic fitting. Other reviewers noted that the float mechanism that closes the rim water is attached to a very small piece of plastic. Be careful as it is easy to break and you will not be able to work with this mechanism. Everything else worked on the first try. The only confusing thing about the instructions is adjusting the "packing screw" to raise/lower the water in the bowl (not the tank). The instructions show a different "sealing screw" than the riser. Also, the position of this screw didn't seem to have much of an effect on the water in the bowl.
