I don't know why, but I rarely find the end of the yarn in the ball. I think I've made it twice over the years of crocheting and as a result of trying to find this ending I ended up with a big mess and that's why I'm not even trying anymore. It's annoying that every project is fed from one strand, as that's what happens when you launch from the outer riser. I chose this winder to enjoy the center pull when crocheting. My first assignment didn't go so well. I sat down at the kitchen table with a roller and a large bowl for mixing the strands. I couldn't get the thread through the guide, I figured I would have to attach the starting yarn to something, so it's easy to find after the cake is done and I moved too quickly towards the end and the leftover yarn in the bowl got very tangled. The next attempt went much better. I threaded the end of the yarn directly into the hole of the guide, like threading the thread into a needle (I still can't understand how to do it any other way), I didn't try to wind the thread to anything, and than As I neared the end of the strand, I walked slowly and didn't tangle. So I'm happy. To me, the inability to pull the yarn out of the middle of the skein isn't the smooth work all the YouTube videos show. But it serves its purpose and is a thousand times better than hand-rolled balls.
