Our city requires that gates outside the pool close by themselves. This, combined with the automatic latches at 54 inches, will help you pass the test. But if you really mean business, you need padlocks on the gate. You don't want the neighbor's kid crawling into your yard and drowning in the pool. I don't want to live with that, that's why there are padlocks on my gates. An added benefit of a padlock is that you are less attractive to burglars. So yeah, this spring thing works to pretty much close your gate. When it comes down to it, you'll probably need to adjust it from time to time, so keep that lever tight.
