Both the top and bottom pins fell out.

The bottom pin is factory installed. The top pin had to be installed by the end user after adjusting the spring tension. I adjusted the tension and installed the top pin. Two days later, both pins fell out - the gate was opened and closed by my gardener. I glued both together with superglue and hope they hold up. There is no excuse for the bottom pin to fall out as it is factory installed. Very disappointed!

Design flaw good for decking and railing

great spring but when you try to tighten the spring there is only one hole? For real? There should be mounting holes around the diameter of the top nut. With only one hole, how do you compress the spring and then remove the compression tool and insert the strut? I used brute force to twist the nib and insert the pin. I don't know how it got on the market this way? Revain must ensure that these products, designed by 7-year-olds, do not end up in the hands of a high-value consumer.

Simple solution to keep the door closed

I have a very heavy steel gate. Unfortunately, when the pool guy goes through the gate, he often leaves it wide open. I needed a mechanism to automatically close the gate. Because the gate is heavy I added a second spring if it wouldn't close with one. The first spring took longer to install, but the second was ready in about 15 minutes since I knew what I was doing. I used a screwdriver to turn the knob to adjust the pin. It wasn't very difficult. I highly recommend.

Easy to install; walks you through city inspection

Our city requires that gates outside the pool close by themselves. This, combined with the automatic latches at 54 inches, will help you pass the test. But if you really mean business, you need padlocks on the gate. You don't want the neighbor's kid crawling into your yard and drowning in the pool. I don't want to live with that, that's why there are padlocks on my gates. An added benefit of a padlock is that you are less attractive to burglars. So yeah, this spring thing works to pretty much…

Great design

The design of this sliding spring makes it stand out. With other springs, the bottom nut simply slides into the spring (which may well come loose). This design has a hard bottom with a protruding pin for attachment. Very good construction. On other designs, use a wrench to turn the top nut so you can push the metal standoff into the space between the nut and the faceplate. In my hands, this design was very difficult to install. This bolt spring has a capstan drive where an included lever turns…

Not so great. - Decking and Railing

Installation was fairly easy but the locking pin to adjust the tension won't stay in, it goes in freely and should be tight. Removing tension from the pull rod during insertion causes the pin to fly out in random directions at high speed. Once he almost punched me in the face. You need to find something to fasten this quickly. Don't know if there are quick setting adhesives that work on doors. Superglue won't work as it doesn't hold up in extreme weather, so that's out of the question. At the…

Serves its purpose, but could be improved. in some cases.

Okay, first for the good. The product does exactly what it promises. I used this on a wooden deck gate that is 3ft high and 5ft wide. middle gate. The device keeps the gate perfectly closed (so our dogs don't come out as much anymore!). The gate used to bounce off the latch and then our dogs would roam the neighborhood :). Bad: The goal is supported by a 4x4 post. It wasn't difficult to screw the device to this part; However, the gate consists of a 2x4 frame, which only provides an area of…
