Okay, first for the good. The product does exactly what it promises. I used this on a wooden deck gate that is 3ft high and 5ft wide. middle gate. The device keeps the gate perfectly closed (so our dogs don't come out as much anymore!). The gate used to bounce off the latch and then our dogs would roam the neighborhood :). Bad: The goal is supported by a 4x4 post. It wasn't difficult to screw the device to this part; However, the gate consists of a 2x4 frame, which only provides an area of about 1.75 inches for mounting the device. I had to screw the device in at a slight angle to the screws, but that wasn't a problem either. It worked. Big. What didn't work was the key to hold the spring. The key did NOT stay in the lock hole to keep spring tension when I turned it the right way. The reason was that the moment the gate closed, he leaned forward a little. Annoyingly, the key lay over the edge of the holder, which usually helped when removing the key. I stuck the key back to front and looped it to a length so that it completely touched the metal artboard. This ensured the key stayed in place and completely eliminated the problem. Black is the same as my loops on my white gates.
