I think the biggest problem is that it's not as easy to read as a more conventional chess board. I'm not sure what problem Fluval was trying to solve with the white background, but they made the product less useful. I haven't had any leaking issues, but I did have to replace the suction cup. The one that goes with it just falls off. Once or twice after it popped out, the liquid was diluted with water from the tank, rendering it unusable. In the end I settled on a more traditional validation system that is much easier to read and stuck where I posted it. I paid extra for the Fluval name and I regret it.
