Description of Fish Water Quality API Test Kit

Contains one (1) API GH & KH TEST KIT Freshwater Aquarium Water Test Kit, including 2 bottles of testing solution and 2 glass test tubes with cap. Helps monitor water quality and prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish and plants and cause fish loss. Accurately measures GH & KH in freshwater aquariums. Water hardness is a measure of the dissolved mineral content of water and should match fish natural habitat to prevent fish stress and keep them healthy. Use for weekly monitoring and when water or fish problems appear. Front of package indicates “for FRESH WATER” because this is the most common use of this product, but instructions include ranges for marine and brackish aquarium water. So this product does not need a warning and it can be used if they wish to.

Bad lots. Chemicals already developed

Received my test solutions and they were bad. KH should be blue straight out of the bottle and GH should be orange. My two bottles are already developed. KH: Lot No. 59B0516 valid until 05/2021. GH: Lot 58A0516 valid from 05/2019. Hopefully it's just a bad draw and we'll come back for another set.

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Nothing here

Must be included in the API masterkit!

It makes no sense that these two items would not be included in HPI's main test kit. The fact that you have to buy them separately and then store them separately because they don't fit in the core set is very frustrating. It's also somewhat unclear how much yellow needs to change to count as a change. Also, there are no instructions listed on the bottle itself, so you'll need to keep a small piece of paper that says what colors you're looking for.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Interchangeable

My Standard Aquarium Test Kits Test Kits

I've been using API Test Kits for over 14 years and have always found them quick, easy, reliable and inexpensive. If you are just starting out with a pond or aquarium, consider purchasing an API Master test kit. The API Freshwater Master Test Kit is a comprehensive kit that is cheaper than buying individual bottles. * The master test kit contains *ammonia, *nitrite, *nitrate, *pH and *high range pH test kits. You still need to buy KH, GH test kits separately. Although not included in the main…

Works well not too difficult

This was really helpful for checking my GH/KH levels. The GH test in particular came in handy when I raised the GH a bit for my snails and mollies. I know some have said the colors are hard to tell apart. I didn't think that was true. The colors are fairly bright, but as long as the tube is on a white background it's pretty clear whether the GH is pale green or pale orange and the KH is blue or yellow. If you're mildly color blind, this can be quite difficult. In a titration test, you typically

Pros
  • Best in niche
Cons
  • No performance

The instructions for the KH test say to count the drops until the water turns light yellow. The word "bright" should be removed because it is important to change the color of the water to yellow. My water turned a dull yellow after six drops, but the seventh drop changed it to a lighter yellow. However, my water has never been as light as the lighter shades of yellow shown in the color chart that came with the API Master test kit. Why did I mean the API master test color chart? I wanted to know

Pros
  • Everything OK!
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

READ this before throwing/returning!

I've seen many reviews that say the kit is defective because the liquid dyes in the bottle were green and orange so must have leaked or expired. I thought so too at first, but had to watch a few videos and found the following: With GH- the drops come out green. In water, it immediately turns orange. Once you've added enough drops, it will turn green again so you can check the levels. If yours immediately turns orange (it turns dull, see it against a white background) then it is much more likely

Seawater information for fish and aquatic animals

In the lower right corner of this field is written FOR FRESHWATER ONLY. If you only have seawater, ONLY buy the KH kit. Just not this one. Only buy one if you have both a freshwater tank and a seawater tank. Both tests work with fresh water. Only KH works for salt water. GH is NOT required for salt water. Make sure the kit includes a color bar to compare readings. I was missing. KH = Carbonate Hardness (testing the alkalinity (buffering capacity) of the water - testing in salt water GH = Total…

  • Lots of positive emotions

The results appear to be accurate. The API GH and KH test kit comes with 2 tubes. You fill the test tube with test water up to the measuring line. You then put a drop of the GH or KH solution (depending on what you are testing for) into the water, then cap the vial and invert a few times and look at the color of the water in the vial. test tube. You repeat the process of adding a drop of solution and inverting the tube, keeping track of the total number of solution drops, until the water…
