The results appear to be accurate. The API GH and KH test kit comes with 2 tubes. You fill the test tube with test water up to the measuring line. You then put a drop of the GH or KH solution (depending on what you are testing for) into the water, then cap the vial and invert a few times and look at the color of the water in the vial. test tube. You repeat the process of adding a drop of solution and inverting the tube, keeping track of the total number of solution drops, until the water changes color to the indicated color. The number of drops of test solution required to change the color of the water is the carbonate or hardness level. So if 4 drops of a KH solution is needed to change the color of the water then the KH value is 4 dKH etc. I only have 2 minor complaints about this test kit. My biggest complaint is that the vial caps leak a bit, requiring me to wrap the vial in a paper towel before inverting it. My only other complaint is that it takes a bit of effort to fill the tube exactly to the fill line, so I use a dosing syringe to draw water for testing.
