Highly Efficient Seachem Purigen for Freshwater & Saltwater Filtration Review

Looks like a fake. It doesn't even have such an outer packaging as in the product photo (see photo). I used to buy a bag, and these two products are completely different bags with different sizes and packaging. This product leaks tiny particles throughout the tank. The bag itself is thinner and has less pure content. Unfortunately I haven't opened it until now and I think it's a past return window. SAD.

There used to be 5 stars, there are purigen, there aren't that many of these bags. I've been using Purigen for years and have no complaints. Works great, purifies water, charges. The only complaint I have is that Seachem seems to have resized the bag. They used to be the perfect size for my fillet basket, now they're longer and uncomfortable. Purigen is great, that's not the reason. But, as other reviewers have complained, the latest batch of 100ml purigen. The bags I got leaked at the seam. And not a little; the seam simply does not close the bag and therefore all the resin flows out when flushed. I obviously didn't put it in my filters that way. So what's the solution? this product did not suit me at all. it "cleaned" the water for 2 days, then the water looked cloudy. like a water change. I checked all the Purigen bags, cleaned them and then put them back in the filter and little white balls appeared all over the tank. Pulled out the purigen. I cleaned the filter and changed 30% of the water. I do not recommend this product. I've read the reviews and it seems to work for some and not for others. Try lots of activated charcoal first and change it often and you can solve tannin/cloudiness problems cheaper and easier than Purigen. However, Purigen is guaranteed to clean your water quickly! However, I would advise not to attach too much importance to the idea of reloading. Yes, you can do it, but it's tedious and requires the use of lots of Seachem Prime (and NO other dechlorinators). I bought Purigen to help my 29 gallon reef tank which is regularly tested for 40ppm nitrates. Putting it in my filter my next test fell to about a 5 and I was hooked. Then the nitrates were back to 40 the next week. I tried different Purigen packs and even refilled the Purigen pack thoroughly. I only gave Purigen 90 days of work. My nitrates never went below 40.
