Here is an objective evaluation of these speakers. First you have to remember that these are $10 speakers, they will never compete with anything better and 10 times more expensive. 2. These are computer, laptop, or PC speakers designed to be placed on a desk next to a computer within 3 feet of you. They are definitely not intended to replace a full home audio system, they sound best in an enclosed space. 3. As many reviews indicate, the cable could have been 30cm longer and that would have been fine, but for my desktop setup right in front of me, they fit. 4. After 2 days of continuous use I'm now hearing a very faint high pitched hum from them, it's not affected by the volume, it's more like electrical PC noise to me, maybe I don't have proper grounding in my home office, that is I, unsurprisingly, don't think the speakers are the problem because they come and go. 5. My intention from the start was to pair them with the subwoofer I had and as a result as they really lack bass the sound of the pairing is far better than I expected. Of course, this is mainly because the subwoofer fills the frequency gap that it has. I turned on the sound card equalizer and found the perfect settings for music and movies on my computer and I'm happy with the results. All in all it was $10 and this subwoofer I bought at the garage sale for another $10 so I have really good sound from my computer sitting in my office and it really fills the room. These are cheap speakers, but with volume controls, EQ response, and a subwoofer, I get exactly what I need. If you want the absolute best possible sound, you MUST spend some money on a system that's the right size and power for the room you're in and what you're going to use it for doesn't change that. If I use them for the next few months and they don't work, well, I'll just buy another pair for $10-$15 and go back. In the end, it's not that bad if you play around with it a bit, let alone try to drown out its nominally optimal volume.
