Review on 🐠 Enhance Your Aquarium's Filtration with Penn-Plax Cascade Canister Filter (1500 Elite) by Trian Wright

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A bit picky, but great results.

Cascading canister filters tend to get the best ratings or are comparable to other leading brands. We have a turtle in about 35 gallons of water. she is dirty And she likes to push the tube and see what she can use in an escape attempt and what she can destroy just for fun. Fortunately, this filter held up after I made some minor (simple) tweaks, such as: B. the anchorage above. Some helpful tips. To start, place it where you want it (level with or below the tank) and pour purified water into the filter until it is almost full. This means you have less to download when you launch it. If it's too difficult due to placement, you can just level up a few times and then let it stand for a bit. It should fill up slowly and take 10-15 minutes, but sometimes that doesn't work. Also, try not to bend the pipes. The shortest and most direct route seems to be the best. You can always buy more whistles. Quite cheap. I cut off a two inch piece and used it as a turtle toy. When it comes to filters in a canister, every type of pet is different. Remember that water enters the canister and runs down the sides before entering the filters, meaning the bottom filter is the first filter through which the water from the tank flows. This should be your course filter. The top section is the last and should be your fine filter. For our painted turtle we'll use the charcoal somewhere near the top of the stack and leave it there for a few cleanings before replacing it. We use ceramic soil media to intentionally encourage the growth of good bacteria that are naturally present there to keep our turtle healthy. Cleaning an external filter depends on many factors. See how it looks in a month or less and move on. I think we clean ours every 1-2 months. Constant water changes help, but a lot of dirt gets into the filter before we can add more water. A ceramic medium intended for growing beneficial bacteria is best simply rinsed with water from the aquarium (first removed from the aquarium and then discarded) and the rest of the filters can be rinsed in a tub under running water. Remember to keep things in order.
