Review on Sony SELP1650 16 50Mm Power Zoom by Amar ᠌

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The quality does not meet expectations, I will not buy any more.

I took this lens for the Sony A6500 as a pocket option for video shooting, and now I spit. I handed it over to the service 2 times, changed the motor and gearbox, then added lubricants - it didn’t help much. Yes, they told me that they are all like that, they showed me another one on the camera, handed over for repair - even louder! And this despite the fact that the Sony website says: "Lens with silent zoom, ideal for video shooting"! Sheer deception! The service refuses to sign the return, claiming that the noise is within the normal range. What norm, it is said - silent! The zoom makes dozens of noise louder than manual or electronic on soap boxes and camcorders. I have a Sony RX100 - there is no zoom. And on this lens, even my voice is blocked when I speak next to the camera! A long correspondence with Sony did not lead to anything, I sent them a video with the crackle of this "silent" zoom, a screenshot from their website with the word "Silent" - continuous replies that everything is normal. Refuse to admit the obvious. I will take it to an independent examination and sue, I don’t like being fooled!

Pros
  • Nothing special, standard zoom that comes with the camera.
Cons
  • Pretty strong distortion at a wide angle, although it is corrected in Adobe RAW, soaps at the beginning and end of the zoom with an open aperture. But the most important thing is the terrible noise of the zoom motor. Not just noise, but some kind of crack!
